Crystal Hunt (HK 1992)

Rating: **
Cast: Donnie Yen, Sibelle Hu, Carrie Ng, Ken Lo, John Salvetti, Michael Woods, cameo by Gordon Liu (Liu Chia Hui)

Action abounds in this Donnie Yen adventure vehicle. Several parties are interested in obtaining a valuable relic from an Indiana Jones style temple, and by the end of the film they have all beaten each other up to get their hands on it. Donnie Yen is charming as ever and fights like a son-of-a-bitch! A tough and sexy Sibelle Hu is his partner and does a fair job holding her own. They are joined by Donnie's girlfriend, who is a major kung fu kick-ass babe - most impressive! (I think it's the same girl who played the villainess in Moon Lee's "Killer Angels" (1989) ) Kung fu kicker Ken Lo and snotty Carrie Ng are treasure hunters, and we even get to see Carrie fight! (and she's pretty good, too!) The main villains are, of course, Donnie Yen's long time sparring partners John Salvetti and Micheal Woods. The fighting scenes are incredible, but sadly uncranked to the point where they begin to look silly. And overall the story feels like it was an afterthought.
