Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II (2009)

Rating: ***
Review Date: 8/2/09
Producer: Seth Green

The evil geniuses behind the original "Robot Chicken: Star Wars" special are back with even more "Star Wars" silliness. Unlike the original, the sequel is a much more thoughtful and cohesive effort rather than just a series of disconnected vignettes. Building on the success of the first show, Episode II focuses on fan favorites Boba Fett, Emperor Palpatine, and the long suffering Darth Vader, while also exploring the back stories of the bounty hunters from "The Empire Strikes Back." The production values are high, the animation is superb, the voice acting is brilliant, and the entire presentation is top notch. The writing quality varies quite a bit, but is overall much sharper and more sophisticated than the original (more "Twisted Toyfare Theater" and less ghetto). Excellent work, and I hope they continue in this direction.
