A considerable improvement over the original "Zombie Shotgun Massacre," but I don't know if that's saying much. Twenty-eight days have passed since the original zombie outbreak, and Alice is still running around in her underwear and toting her trusty shotgun, collecting swimsuit idol trading cards and trying to find a safe haven from the unrelenting undead. Curiously, the local nightclub is still open for business, even though the only patrons are Peter Pervinski and a bunch of dancing zombies. The "Streets Of Rage" (1991) influence is even stronger in this game and the artwork and presentation are much more attractive this time around. The controls have also been tightened up and the game is MUCH easier to play, which makes for a considerably more enjoyable experience. It's nice to see some new zombie types added to the mix, and while the puking zombies are still around, it only takes two shots to take them out now. The only downside to the decreased difficulty is that you can finish the game in under an hour, which makes you realize how short it is. And while it's a more polished and streamlined game, it also lacks the scope the ambition of the original. Still, it's the best Indie game I've played so far, and you can't argue with the $1 price tag. I'm very interested to see what Dual Haze comes up with next, and I'd love to see them continue to refine the series.
