SoulCalibur

Year: 1999
Platform: Dreamcast
Publisher: Namco
Genre: 3D fighter
Rating: ****

Characters from around the world are fighting to obtain a mystical sword known as "Soul Edge." Some believe the sword is evil, while others believe it is the key to salvation. This follow-up to Namco's "Soul Blade" (1996) is essentially "Tekken" with edged weapons, as the fighting engine and game mechanics are nearly identical. The game is extremely well made with suberb graphics, slick gameplay, a strong musical score, and tons of bonus material. The addition of mission mode adds a lot of replay value to the game, as it unlocks bonus artwork and extra features. An excellent fighting game in every respect, and another must-have for Dreamcast owners.
