Cryptographer James Spader is called in by the government to decrypt an ancient and possibly alien artifact. When he succeeds, he and a bunch of military dudes led by Kurt Russell go through the dimensional portal that the artifact created and liberate the oppressed people on the other side. Lightweight sci-fi entertainment that is unfortunately lacking in having enough action and eye candy. Could have been better.
