In the same vein as "Better Off Dead" (1985), but not nearly as good. John Cusack wants to write and illustrate a love story, but his parents want him to get a athletic scholarship and play basketball (at which he has no skill). A cute and feisty Demi Moore comes to town as a musician looking for a big break, and Cusack falls for her and helps her out. Of course there's some requisite nasty jocks and rich kids to deal with, but vengeance is finally awarded to the everyday guys who aren't all that cool. Lots of angst filled teenage fun.
