Divided into eight episodes

Terrible! For something with "Mortal Kombat" in the title, it has surprisingly little combat. Or anything else, for that matter. Intended to reboot the series, this collection of short vignettes serves as the groundwork for re-introducing Jax, Sonia, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Mileena, Rayden, Scorpion, Subzero, and Cyrax to the MK universe. It's definitely low budget and the production values are average at best. The writing is awful, the action scenes are poor, and the animated segments are nearly unwatchable. The Johnny Cage segment was so awful that I couldn't even make it through the first two minutes without hitting the fast-forward button. Sadly, the series does nothing to make the characters interesting or endearing, and while I appreciate the darker and more serious tone, there's nothing to back it up. Here's hoping that the second season is better, as it contains a much more interesting cast, including Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Mark Dacascos, Casper Van Dien, and Eric Jacobus.
