Judge Dredd (1995)

Rating: ***
Music: Alan Silvestri
Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Armand Asanti, Jurgen Prochnow, Diane Lane, Joan Chen, Rob Schneider, Max Von Sydow

Sylvester Stallone plays Judge Dredd, the ultimate law enforcer of the future. But his evil protege (Armand Asanti) wants Dredd out of the way so that he can rule the city through chaos and anarchy. Asanti and nasty Jurgen Prochnow frame Dredd and have him and his mentor (Max Von Sydow) thrown out into the wasteland so that they can begin their reign of terror. But Dredd comes back for revenge, with the aid of goofy Rob Schneider (who should have never been in the script in the first place). The final showdown pits Stallone and Asanti against each other while sexy Diane Lane and tough Joan Chen have their own little cat fight. Unfortunately, the fight between Lane and Chen is seriously upstaged by Stallone and Asanti, making it look cheap and silly. These two women are capable of so much more and deserve better coverage in the film. The film boasts some good effects (e.g. the giant robot) and some bad ones (e.g. the aerial bike chase scene), but overall looks good and is entertaining.
