Gateways To The Mind (1958)

Director: Owen Crump
Cast: Dr. Frank Baxter

This entry in the Bell Labs Science Series explores the human sensory system of sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch. The entire thing takes place at a movie studio sound stage, where a bunch of different stagehands ask Dr. Frank Baxter a variety of questions in "hey, doc" format. It's pretty tedious and tiresome. Chuck Jones provides a few animated bits to illustrate the nervous system, but overall the presentation lacks energy and flair. The production values are nice and the religious subtext from earlier episodes is completely absent, but it's a bit challenging to get through and not particularly entertaining.
