Cronenberg's remake of the original 1950's horror film is spiced up with some really gross gore and makeup effects. Jeff Goldblum is a brilliant scientist who's obsessed with teleportation, and he comes incredibly close to perfecting the process. Unfortunately, when he uses himself as a test subject, a fly is in the chamber with him and they are genetically combined on the other end of the process. At first, he experiences increased strength and awareness, but soon he starts to physically mutate into something horrid and fly-like. After numerous failed attempts to remove the fly's DNA from his body, his lover (Geena Davis), finally pulls the trigger on him. Pretty good stuff - scary and gross.
