The French Connection (1971)

Rating: **
Director: William Friedkin
Cast: Gene Hackman, Roy Scheider

Kind of a letdown after all of the hype. This is a long and tedious police procedural about a couple of loose cannon cops (Gene Hackman and Roy Scheider) who are trying to bust a shipment of heroin coming in from France. Pretty gritty and realistic, but a tad on the boring side. There's a pretty nifty car chase scene towards the end, but I'm not sure if it's worthy of the "best car chase scene in cinematic history" award that so many people bestow on it.
