Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1992)

Rating: ****
Director: Fran Rubel Kuzui
Writer: Joss Whedon
Cast: Kristy Swanson, Luke Perry, Rutger Hauer, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens

A surprisingly fun and unpretentious teen comedy about an air-headed valley girl named Buffy (Kristy Swanson) who finds out her destiny is to slay vampires. She is none too happy about this, as it seriously gets in the way of her shopping, dating, and gossiping. Through her training, we see Buffy slowly transform into a strong, semi-responsible, independent thinking girl who realizes that her friends are just a bunch of air-headed dopes and finds romance in the arms of rebellious biker dude Luke Perry. She eventually confronts the vampire king (Rutger Hauer) at the high school prom and everything becomes a mess. But she and Luke Perry ride off in the night, living to slay another day. Everything about the film is fun and light-hearted, and Kristy Swanson is a lot of fun to watch. She's cute and full of conviction, and pulls off her fight scenes extremely well. My favorite film of 1992.
