Batman Forever (1995)

Rating: *
Director: Joel Schumacher
Cast: Val Kilmer, Nicole Kidman, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carrey, Chris O'Donnell

A truly terrible film that is a collection of bad set pieces and terrible writing. The tone is much more campy and outlandish than Tim Burton's entries, and the film suffers severely as a result. Val Kilmer is the Batman this time around, and he adopts circus performer Dick Grayson (Chris O'Donnell) as his ward when he sees his family killed by Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones). Grayson eventually learns about Bruce Wayne's secret identity and joins him as Robin. Meanwhile, nerdo scientist Edward Nigma (Jim Carrey) becomes the crazed Riddler and threatens Gotham City with mayhem. Throw in Nicole Kidman as the requisite psychologist babe and the film is complete. Cheesy effects and terrible direction make this an endurance test to sit through, and one of the worst films I've ever paid money to see in a theater.
