Tokyo: The Last Megalopolis (Japan 1987)

Rating: *
Alternate Title: Capital City

Not only is this film tediously boring, but it's confusing, overly convoluted, and over two hours long! A severe disappointment, spiced up with an occasional cool effect or nifty monster. A villain with an uncanny resemblence to Bison from "Street Fighter II" is determined to destroy Tokyo using the underground psychic energy connected to a dead hero. He is opposed by a group of serious minded city planners who have big plans for the future of Tokyo. Then it's about ninety minutes of "what the hell is going on?" followed by a lame and confusing final battle involving possessed spirits, stop motion demons, giant statues, and steam operated robots. You pretty much have to have your thumb on the fast forward button the whole time in order to get through the entire film.
