Sea Wolves (HK 1990)

Rating: ***
Alternate Title: In The Line Of Duty 7
Martial Arts Choreography: Philip Kwok
Cast: Cynthia Khan, Simon Yam, Garry Chau, Norman Chu (Tsui Siu Keung), cameo by Philip Kwok

The ever-so-cute Cynthia Khan returns as Inspector Yeung from the "In The Line Of Duty" (1986) series, but unfortunately doesn't have much to do in the film. She also wears some really unflattering pants and goes by the nickname "Greenie." John (Simon Yam) is a somewhat reluctant member of a group of modern day pirates and his long time buddy Gary (Garry Chau) becomes an unfortunate victim in one of their pillages. Gary develops amnesia and manages to escape the death ship, only to be framed for a murder that Madam Yeung is investigating. John, Gary, and Inspector Yeung eventually team up and take out the real bad guys in a fantastic fight on the villains' boat. Simon Yam pulls off a great performance and some good fighting. Garry Chau fights well, but is rigid and unconvincing as an actor. Although Cynthia Khan doesn't get to do much fighting, her action scenes contain some of her most brutal and unrestrained work. Physically, she's definitely at the top of her game. Vicious and above average action film fare, but I was left wishing for more girl-fu.
