Peacock King (HK 1988)

Rating: **
Cast: Yuen Biao, Hiroshi Makumi, Narumi Yasuda, Gloria Yip, Pauline Wong, Eddie Ko, Gordon Liu

Yuen Biao and Hiroshi Makumi are Buddhist monks who are trying to save the world from destruction at the hands of Hell King. They fight a series of stop-motion critters, ghosts, and hell beasts in a flurry of cheesy special effects, but unfortunately that's not enough to make the film interesting. The film also suffers in that it makes very little sense. Fortunately the bombastic Yuen Biao is on hand to liven things up, Narumi Yasuda is pretty, and the ever-so-cute Gloria Yip is always a treat. But still, it's boring.
