Once Upon A Time In China IV (HK 1993)

Rating: ***
Producer: Tsui Hark
Director: Yuen Bun
Cast: Zhao Wen Zhiou (Chiu Man Cheuk, Vincent Zhao), Jean Wang, Max Mok, Billy Chow

This film takes place immediately after part 3, and is somewhat a continuation of the "Lion King Competition." This time the naughty foreigners are the Germans, and there's a group of radical female Chinese terrorists out to destroy them (like the White Lotus Society in part 2). Zhao Wen Zhiou replaces Jet Li as Wong Fei Hung, and although his presence is not as intense as Li's, he proves to be an impressive fighter. Rosamund Kwan is replaced by pretty Jean Wang as Aunt Yee, but the chemistry between her and Zhao Wen Zhiou is not as convincing as the chemistry between Jet Li and Rosamund Kwan. Still, they are perfectly acceptable replacements. The fighting is good and plentiful, but relies a little too much on wire tricks, and Billy Chow shows up as a great creepy looking bad guy.
