Drunken Tai-Chi (HK 1984)

Rating: *
Director: Yuen Woo Ping
Martial Arts Choreography: Yuen Clan
Cast: Donnie Yen, Yuen Cheung Yan

This early Donnie Yen vehicle perfectly showcases the star's speed, agility, and grace, but is painfully stupid and goofy to watch. Essentially a clone of "Drunken Master" (1978), with some amazing and unbelievable martial arts marred only by some bizarre jump cuts. Donnie Yen is a spoiled rich kid whose family gets murdered and is finally taken in by an eccentric old man (Yuen Cheung Yan) who teaches him the art of Tai-Chi (but strangely, there's no drunken aspect, as the title suggests). He, of course, gets his revenge. This film also shamelessly steals parts of "Battlestar Galactica" (1978) for its musical score.
