Toy Story (1995)

Rating: ****
Director: John Lasseter
Music: Randy Newman
Animation: Pixar
Cast: Tim Allen, Tom Hanks

A remarkable achievement and a delightful film from the dark and twisted minds at Pixar. Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) is a fancy new toy that all the other toys, especially Woody (Tom Hanks), are jealous of. Through many exciting adventures, Woody and Buzz finally team up to save themselves from a nasty destructive kid, and find their way back home to their rightful owner. Brilliantly animated, this is the first film to be completely rendered by 3D computer software. My one complaint that I have about all of Pixar's material is that it tends to be unnecessarily cruel and mean spirited. Take "Wish You Were Here" and "Tin Toy" as prime examples, and "Toy Story" is just the continuation of that attitude. Apart from that minor quibble, the film is just utterly fantastic.
