Kiki's Delivery Service (Japan 1989)

Rating: ****
Director: Hayao Miyazaki

Another magical adventure from Hayao Miyazaki. This is a coming of age tale about a young witch named Kiki and her adventures when she leaves home. She begins a high flying delivery service and makes many friends along the way, but her self esteem and confidence are beaten down by the other young kids and she eventually loses her magic. After some soul searching, a freak accident and a friend in danger inspire her spirit and rekindle her powers, and she saves the day. Beautiful stuff with a charming innocence to it. This is Disney's first release of Miyazaki's library and they've done a fine job, although I think some liberties were taken with some of the translation.
